Scheduled for completion by the end of 2008, the complex, which will be financed by a mix of state, city and private-sector funding, will include a state-of-the-art 1,800-seat concert hall, a 450-seat rehearsal and recital hall, and a cluster of conference and meeting halls. And should investors grasp the opportunity, the plans also allow for the construction of a 250-room first-class hotel.

When designing the concert hall the main focus will be on acoustics. The conference center will be designed with acoustics and line of sight in mind. The hotel is meant to be a first class five star hotel. The role of East Harbour Project is to see to it that these goals be put into action in the best and most economic way. Careful thought must be made on integration of different activity within the builiding, to the overall image of the city center and its organising of traffic etc. The main emphasis is on:
  • Excellent acoustics
  • Good architecture
  • Integration of different operations
  • Attractive city atmosphere

Combined size of the concert hall and conference center will be 15.000 m2. The building will house:

  • 1.800 person high class concert hall
  • Up to 750 person specially designed conference hall
  • Hall for practice and concerts, up to 450 persons, that can also be used as a conference hall
  • Facilities for artists and office of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra
  • 16 smaller conference halls that take 400-500 seats
  • service and tecnical areas
Estimated size of the 250 room hotels is 20.000 m2 with the possibility of adding 7.000 m², making the rooms 450.
